Hello Everyone
I just wanted to announce that Portia was artificially inseminated at 5 o'clock this evening with semen from World Champion Obi Wan Kenobi from Betelges Kennels in Serbia. The surgery went very well, according to Dr. Reiman, and we will be picking our girl up in the morning. Of course, Portia is not an average dog and she certainly made that crystal clear as she did not ovulate until day 20 which is a very rare occurrence. In fact, Slobodan Maksimovic, who is the owner of Obi has never heard of that happening in all his 30 years in the business! It has been a very long 2 weeks and we have missed our Princess beyond words. I know that she will be so happy to be back in her castle! The work will now begin in preparation for the little cherubs and making sure mama Portia stays in tip top shape. One thing is for certain Portia's mom, Stella, was the best mom in the world and we know Portia will be a great mom too! For those of you who have patiently been waiting for Portia puppies the projected due date will be April 24th give or take a day or two. Of course, I will continue to keep you all up to date. Here is a little update on Portia. Her progesterone level remains below normal for insemination but she is at Brittmoore Animal Hospital where they will continue to check her levels daily until she is ready for surgery. It was very difficult for us to leave our precious girl, but it was the best choice for her in order to ensure a successful breeding. I will continue to keep you all apprised of her progress during this very exciting time.
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
I just wanted to post an update on Portia's visit to Brittmoore Animal Hospital (BAH) yesterday. She was quite the Primadona as she waited for her name to be called. She was one of many purebred dogs in the waiting room chocked full of Irish Wolfhounds, Black Russian Terriers (which made her look like a chihuahua), Cavaliers and very pregnant English Bulldogs...LOL. She just sat regally with ears alert (in her diaper haha) looking at all the odd bloaks, of course, none as well behaved as her! Dr. Dikeman, who has been at BAH since 1970, did her exam which involved a speculum and a blood draw but she never flinched! Of course, a true princess NEVER does! He actually thought by exam she was a little further along than day 3 or 4 of bleeding but would wait on lab results to confirm. Dr. Dikeman called me this morning at 8:00 am and reported she is very early in her cycle and we can wait for 3-4 more days for another progesterone level. Most likely, we are looking at next week for surgery but stay tuned as I will keep you all updated. Enjoy the Super Bowl! Grab the kleenex box for the Clydesdale commercial! |
