Do Not Wake The Babies!!

4/29/2015

The babies now have a regular routine 24/7 of eating, sleeping, pooping and peeing! Unfortunately, they are not all "on the same page"...LOL. Don't get me wrong, I am so happy that the bodily functions are "rocking and rolling" but it would be great if one would not wake his/her neighbor if duty calls...LOL. Bobby and I find ourselves whispering and walking softly when they are all asleep and, like the commercial, we rush to hush barking members of the household to avoid waking the babies (of course the commercial has a human baby).
We are now transitioning from supplemental tube feedings to bottle feedings for bonding and we have just a few boys and girls that need extra groceries. They are all thrilled with not having a tube shoved down their throats and are loving the taste of this "new milk". Of course, they still get supervised nursing time with Portia, but no more than 3 or so at a time to avoid any injuries to healing tails. Butterball pink leather girl is still the heavyweight in the bunch and is happiest falling asleep with a nipple in her mouth...LOL.
I am amazed at how strong each and every puppy is. Most are standing on their own and even walking a little before losing their balance (still trying to catch on video) and Blue Boy's eyes look to be trying to open!
Stay tuned as we continue to catch those Kodak moments!

Puppies Day 6

4/26/2015

Good Evening Everyone,

Who could imagine 13 beautiful little puppies could turn your household upside down! Between tube feedings, supervised feedings with Portia, midnight trips to the ER and the never ending piles of laundry, this little group has managed to "tear our playhouse down" LOL

At 6 days old they are so strong and always hungry but they are so cute with their barks, growls, and grunts as they communicate with each other and snuggle with their surrogate parents.

We have taken some really cute video to help capture their personalities, so please enjoy (I am going to try to load under their albums).

Unfortunately, I must return to the "real world" tomorrow and leave these little ones in the capable hands of my better half, Bobby.

LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER

The puppies are 5 days old today and continue to eat and gain weight. They have had a very eventful week as they had their tails docked on Wednesday. We have been very careful to monitor them for infection but the biggest obstacle has been keeping Portia from licking and removing those "things on their tails"(stitches).... LOL. Portia's mom, Stella, was the best mom to the point of being "OCD" about her babies tails, so we ordered a muzzle to prevent any mishaps but have not had to use it because she has been so good (or so we thought).

Late last night as we were preparing to tube feed, we noticed that 6 of the boys and girls had their stitches removed by "you know who"! So off to the emergency vet clinic we went with puppies and mama.

Dr. B at the emergency clinic was very impressed with the health of the puppies and did a wonderful job of fixing Portia's mishap. We returned home in the wee hours of the morning to finish our tube feedings! Ahhhhh...sleep deprivation is wonderful.....LOL.

Like mother like daughter, Portia continues to amaze us with her mom Stella's behaviors and mannerisms which are all highly regarded except for the tail obsession...

Monitored feedings from now on Portia until those tails are healed!

"Portia keep your tongue off the tails" HAHAHA

Please stay tuned for some more great pics and video of these sweet little angels.

All the puppies are doing great! They have huge appetites and gaining weight daily. They are also getting more vocal everyday and they are starting to play and interact even though their ears and eyes are still closed. We are supplementing with tube feedings every 4 hours to help Portia. With 13 puppies you can only imagine how much they can drink...lol
keep checking the website for photo updates.

The 13 puppies got their tails docked and dewclaws removed yesterday, and everyone got a healthy report.  They are starting to pack on weight.  Individual photo albums for each puppy are under the Available Puppies tab (and eventually moved under the Progeny tab).  Their photo albums will build from there.

Reality......

Hi Everyone,
We are at day #49! This past weekend, Bobby finished Portia's whelping box and as we were moving the huge box from the shop into the house, REALITY hit me smack in the face!!
The journey to this point has been exciting, challenging, and exhausting, but as I look at my sweet girl with her head in my lap, those beautiful soft eyes saying "what is happening to me?", I am flooded by so many emotions such as joy, anticipation, and fear, to name a few. The babies that I feel moving around in her belly and hear their heartbeats are not just ANY babies, they are Portia's babies, and she is depending on me to help her.
Stacey and I talk almost every day about the puppies, our girls and our work week, "nothing new". But today, the reality that we are 2 weeks from delivery is sitting in my living room in the form of a big Box! Ready or not, we will be meeting those babies very soon! Portia says "I am soooo READY!"
