We have a lot of new Stellar Doberman owners and I thank each and every one of you for adopting your new family member! We sent many of you home with freshly cropped ears, and I know you have recently gotten stitches removed. It is important to continue to use triple antibiotic ointment if they appear irritated or inflamed.
Here are some links to a set of videos on how to make European Style Headgear for your puppy's ears. Holly and I use these for the first three weeks to stretch and strengthen the cartilage. We wrap ours with vet wrap (save money and buy it at Tractor Supply.)You will see your puppy's ears start to stand after using these for a few days. Keep them on your puppy, they will get used to this, and even sleep with it. Change the tape when it wears off.
Clean your puppy's ears inside and out with alcohol pads, let them dry. Place the headgear on their head, and using the Zonas tape, apply a strip that attaches to the inside of the ear, stretch the puppies ear tight, pulling the tape over the headgear, then sticking it to the backside of the ear. You're all done.
Keep doing this for three weeks. These pups grow fast, so you may need to modify or build larger racks weekly. After the three week period, start posting. Holly and I will try the zip tie method on our pups, but if we aren't happy with this we will go to posting with tampons. You have our numbers, holler if you need anything! Please send us pics of your new racks!
